Redentore
The Redentore is one of Venetians’ most cherished festivals. Celebrated every year on the third weekend of July, it is a reminder of the construction of the Church of the Redeemer to give thanks for the end of the terrible plague of 1577. At sunset, hundreds of boats lighted with paper lanterns and embellished with colored balloons and garlands reach St. Mark's Basin and the Giudecca Canal, waiting for the spectacular fireworks that light up the waters of Venice.
